How are we going to convert your electricity bill into a saving?

The CEB and LECO have introduced a new method for paying electricity bills called NET Metering, Where the home owner can generate his own electricity and supply to CEB or LECO. This they shall will offset by every kWh (unit) consumed from them by every kWh (unit) supplied by the Home owner. (Simply this is something like offsetting your electricity consumption by your own electricity production).

The advantage to the Home owner is that he does not need to worry about electricity tariff increments since the electricity provided by him also increases in value in same proportion as per  the CEB or LECO costs. There for he can lock the electricity tariff for years to come.

This is how the system exactly works.

1. Let’s assume your electricity consumption is 600kWh (units) per month.Your daily consumption would be 20kWh (600kWh/30).

2. In usual practice the 20kWh will be consumed by you as 10kWh during day time and 10 kWh during night time.

3. To offset your entire electricity bill, you will require a solar energy harvesting system that will generate 20 kWh during day time. So let’s assume you got that too.

4.  Day time consumption of 10kWh will beoffset100% by the Proposed Solar Electricity System, the remaining 10kWh will need to be stored to be used at night.

5. There are no batteries In this system,. The CEB or LECO Grid will be considered as your energy storage point.

6. The additional 10kWh generated during day time is given to the CEB. You can take this 10kWh back from CEB during night time, for free! There for the energy needed during the night time is also off set. To monitor this energy exchange, the CEB installs a smart energy meter called the NET METER.

7. There for at the end of the day, you haven’t taken any electricity from the CEB or LECO.

The Solution highlighted is about offsetting your energy consumption and not powering your home appliances with Solar Energy. There for it’s NOT NECESSARY at all to change the existing wiring in your home and no batteries will be involved in this system.

There will be no power shortage because the solar energy harvesting system is connected in parallel to the CEB or LECO supply. Therefore in case of reduction in power production due to rain or low sunlight conditions, only then the required amount is automatically drawn from the CEB or LECO supply.
